BETTER THAN IT HAS A RIGHT TO BE!

I tested this after not shaving my (very heavy) beard for three days, and it did amazingly well. 30 years ago I took the then current Braun battery-operated equivalent of this model with me to boot camp. Back then it was red (!) and included a mirror. I don't remember (big surprise) if it had a trimmer, but that would be the only thing it lacks.

Of course it was originally of German origin (and similar to the Ronson range), but now it's about as German made as any American or English product - MADE IN CHINA.
It's a great value at around $20, so travel with confidence, go to that meeting late in the day, on that hot date for which there's no time to go home after work..yup - it's a good 'un.

Burns my underarms every time, takes forever to shave legs

I got this because the rotary razors have always seemed to me like they'd deliver a smoother shave (being multi-directional). However, after 2-3 months of using it, I've decided it's pretty much useless for me. The shave is not any smoother than a normal electric shaver. Also, I've never had razor burn from any razor before, but this one gives me nasty burns on my armpits every time I use it there.

The real death knell for this shaver for me is that it takes many passes of it to shave my legs completely. My hair is fine, thin, and light colored, so I don't have to shave often, but when I do, I want it to go efficiently. The only pleasant part is that it feels a bit like a massager on my legs.

Overall, I can't recommend this razor. It's possible that it just does better on a different hair type than mine, but if you have fine/soft leg hair, skip this razor.

WONDERFUL SHAVER!!!

This is a great product. I love it and use it all the time. Often when I use to shave with a regular razor, my legs itched, but they don't at all with this shaver!

great replacement

this razor works great especially around the knees and ankles.great deal$10 less than thru remington plus no shipping.

it's just ok

I bought this because of the Remington name and the price. It is good for around the legs, but it leaves a rash when doing other areas and does not do underarms.

The search continues

I have VERY sensitive skin and blade shaving is near impossible. So I'm always on the lookout for a gentle electric. This one is comfortable to use and very quiet but unfortunately only shaves about as close as 1-day-old stubble (after a blade). My WDF-3000 does better than that but I wanted to try something new since it can be irritating to my skin, also it's so loud the whole house knows you're shaving. So I wouldn't recommend this one especially if you're used to using a blade.

Editorial Review :

Philips Norelco Arcitec Shaving System model 1090 With a 360 degree swiveling shaving head and a state-of-the art sleek design, arcitec is the most advanced Philips Norelco shaver yet. Compared to other Philips Norelco shavers, arcitec offers new flex & pivot technology, a more aerodynamic design, and an advanced tube trimmer. Arcitec's 'central drive' technology makes it possible to design an ultra slim ergonomic body that fits snugly in your hand -- making it more comfortable to hold and effortless to use. The central drive technology connects all rotary blades to the shaving motor using only one spindle (axle) for a more comfortable grip.

Customer Review :

Norelco Arcitec 1090 excellant razor

I have always been a Norelco razor user. I have tried others but they're never as good. I went to the 1090 because I liked the design and weight, and the fact that you can clean it with water without taking it apart. It has lived up to my expectations! It cuts well, cleans easily, and contours to my face while shaving. It doesn't leave any low stubble! I would recomend it to anyone!

Not worth the money

For a razor costing over $200, this thing doesn't come close to what it should be able to do.

My razor doesn't shave hairs past 2mm, and even the small hairs sometimes do not get shaved completely. I gave this razor to my friend and he had the same experience - it might shave 80% of tiny hairs on the first try if you dont sit there and rotate the thing for 5 minutes and use the back trimmer (which works better than the razor)

NOTHING beats the $5 Gillette razor so far.

IMO, not worth what I paid. Might be worth $80.

Absolutely the best razor I have ever had!

Lightweight, fits my hand very comfortably, and most importantly the best shave I have ever had. Travels well protected in the new "pod" it comes with, is light weight to help with travel restrictions, and the charge held for three full weeks! The only downside, if there is one, is that the trimmer is small and behind the head making it a little hard to see and use. Outstanding, easy to clean razor, with the best shave I have ever had.

Answer:
1) if u have a moustache make sure it's neat or if "scraggly"..not so "scraggly"... 2) i like a lil bit of chest hair but not so much...not a lawn on ur chest...lol... 3) i don't mind armpit hair..its cool and manly..lol...

Question : Body hair shaving problem?
I found this amazing philips shaver for mens body grooming, its working wonders but I tend to have skin irritation and if I dont use hair minimizing lotion, it grows into a boils, especially on my upper back! Is this normal? Is anyone out there having a similar problem?

Answer:
my step-son shaves most of his body hair and has this problem. he found using an abrasive textured cloth or a loofa or a shower scrunchy keeps the dead skin from forming over the hair shaft and no more boils or irritation.

Question : what's the best mens's personal grooming (body hair) accessory?
I used to use a Braun shaver, but it died, and I need something that doesn't nick my tender privates!

Question : Girls: To shave, or not to shave, that is the question. How do you like your men?
I'm thinking male body hair here, to be more specific. Hairy chest good to run your fingers through or gross? - you decide. Please note: The questioner wishes it to be known that there is nothing implied or inferred in the above, as to his current body grooming regime.

Answer:
hey you!!!! Well personally speaking, provided you cant actually plait the chest hair - I think a bit is nice Back hair is a HUUGE no no though xx

Question : Where to find a small trimming grooming tool for small dogs?
I bought the normal size trimmer for my 8 pound dog and it works great on her body but I need a smaller trimmer for her legs. The video that teaches you how to groom showed a smaller pair of clippers to do the dogs legs and paws. I can't find a smaller trimmer at Petco or Pet Stuff. Any suggestion on where to look?

Answer:
Here's a website with a few trimmers, I have the "Lola" (near the bottom): http://www.ryanspet.com/ryanspet/category.asp?categoryCode=111& When I groom smaller dogs, I will use the clippers on the body and then sweep them gently over the tops of the legs. Then I comb/brush the legs and use shears to just trim the hair to just 'neaten' it up. Usually shaving the legs will make the legs look super skinny when compared to the body, if you just trim them it balances the look out. Good luck :)

Question : what are some grooming tips for horse shows?
i was wondering if any body has any grooming tips for when you go to a horse show? especially for thoroughbreds....

Answer:
Grooming shouldn't be any different at a show than it is at home. Your horse should be curried and brushed both before and after your ride. If you need to hose your horse off after it has been ridden, groom it after it has dried (this will reduce the likelihood of your horse wanting to roll). Show Sheen should only be used in tails, and you should use your fingers to pick out shavings (this will reduce breakage). Trim whiskers, ears, and fetlocks at home before you go.

Question : Body hair grooming?
I have mascular body and alot of chest hair and stomech hair, I would like to shorten it. Does using scissors to short it is ok ? will it itch after ? thanks.

Question : What is the best male body grooming tool?
An all in one, area specific.. It doesn't matter, I just can't go out and buy one without hearing pros and cons first.

Answer:
one of those remmington beard and moustache trimmers...thats what my ex uses...its got attachments so you can keep it trimmed to a certain length or if need be you can shave it all off with the trimmer

Question : If your body was a car, would you buy it?
With all the grooming, the cleaning the trimming. Theres the inefficient fuel consumption, the constant fluid replacement, and the weird smell coming from the trunk. What would you add or subtract to make your body better? More efficient? More user friendly?

Answer:
Sure! It's gotten me wherever I wanted to go; picked up it's "share" of pretty "hitch-hikers" along the way; still gets GREAT miles-per-gallon... AND, it's had surprisingly FEW "breakdowns"- considering some of the rough "roads" I've taken it over... So by & large, I certainly got a good deal on THIS model, & would buy it again- in a heartbeat. :)

Question : What causes a body odor even if your very hygienic and health conscious?
I have friend that is very well groomed and health concious, eating the right food and taking a bath though not often as in every other day because he gets feverish if he always wet his hair specially in cold season but the problem is he still have a body odor and I gently advise him to use deodorant and he tried but he gets allergies in the armpit so he stopped. I wish I could help him but even I hesitate to mentioned that too much to him for fear of hurting his feelings. How can I help him to lessen the smell in natural way without resorting to surgery? please advise.

Answer:
That's not so very hygienic and health conscious. Body odour is caused by bacteria. The natural oils and moisture that your skin releases protects you and attracts bacteria. Some people are afflicted worse than others. I don't think there is surgery for it... you seem to know.... but to rid yourself of dreadful body odor, there is no good answer, but to bathe regularly, replacing those natural oils with something scented that is more appealing. There are low allergy soaps available. Salty water is also good btw. An anti-bacterial soap with lavender for example.... a good quality shampoo and conditioner used daily will also help conceal it... and an antiperspirant deoderant with a matching cologne..... oh,... and maybe this person bathes twice a day but wears the same clothes for a week... so a good quality scented washing powder and regular change of clothes is also a useful ploy to adopt..... How do you handle this as friend? Go to the laundromat together?.. Nope. talk about it.. people don't learn unless they communicate.... you get to learn how to be diplomatic and achieve what you set out to.. they learn to smell like a rose... If none of these alternatives work, then I understand there are prescriptive medications available for these symptoms.
