Excellent Razor
This is an excellent razor. It is my first electric razor, and I have not had any problems becoming adjusted to it. It is easy to clean, extremely quick, and rather elegant. The color is a little lame-- who wants to sell something called "eggplant" to men. Also, the clear plastic cover for the head is the bane of my existance. But from the perspective of providing a clean, comfortable, and close shave, it's tops.

Super convenient high performance close shaver
A gift from my wife a year ago,it has been an inseperable companion since and works like a charm every morning. Began with a sensitive setting and moved to Normal over time. Even though this is my first electric shaver, the transition from the blade was uneventful and before long it became an integral part of the morning routine. Atleast 4 other friends have purchased this model on my recommendation and have enjoyed it. One notch below the top of the line in the spectra model line, it is everything you would need off an electric shaver. Along with the sideburns' trimmer, a nose hair trimmer would have completed the toolset required by a man to manage his facial hair.

A Worthy Purchase
I bought an electric shaver because I'm lazy. I used a Mach 3 for about 4 years and then upgraded to Mach 3 Turbo blades. I got a really close shave (I go with and against the grain) and with the exception of the right and left parts of my chin, there were no signs that facial hair even existed there. But this would take me forever, and the last thing I want to do when I wake up is shave. So I decided to buy an electric shaver. I've had the shaver for about two weeks now. I was not very content with my first coulple shaves, but things improved over time.
Pros - Gets very close. The left and right sides of my chin are still difficult to shave, but I get much closer than I used to. - Takes half the time to shave. - There is a little collection compartmant that captures the hair so I can shave in my room while my roommates are taking a shower. - It comes with 9 settings.
Cons - Its difficult to shave around the neck. I tend to cut myself a little whenever I try. - The cap was annoying at first becasue it is difficult to tell which side attaches to the front. I ended up drawing an arrow. - Cleaing and drying it is kind of a pain. - Near the end of the battery life, the shaver kind of dies down.
Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase. The instruction manuel recommends changing blades after a year (they cost about 20 dollars I think). I think its worth it.

Norelco 8865XL Spectra Rechargeable Cord/Cordless Shaver
GREAT shaver. Well worth the price! Updated/upgraded from a 10 year old similar model and this one is superb. Used by both husband and wife, the Spectra shaves faces, neck area and legs equally well. Lots of adjustment for closeness. Fits very nicely in the hand. It cleans very easily with the top piece flipping up to the side instead of coming apart separately. Nice feature. Haven't cleaned it under running water yet, our humidity is very high and don't want to worry about it drying completely between uses. QUICK charging and it has a great holder/stand. Would certainly encourage others to buy this product.

Excellent, even for a blade-user
I bought this shaver a while ago, but I wanted to wait at least a month before writing my review, since it's supposed to take about that long before your face is used to an electric razor.
This is my first electric, and I was concerned going into it. I looked at the price of good standard blades, though, and saw how quickly an electric razor would pay for itself. I'll never go back. For the first week, the shave was not as close as I had become accustomed with using a blade. After that, though, I've gotten closer and closer shaves by the week. After a little more than a month of using the Spectra, my skin is now smooth even against the grain. I've gotten back to where I was with a blade. The Pros: - Shaving takes easily only half the time as it did with a straight razor. - I can shave any time, any where. With a blade, if I tried to shave more than once per day, I'd cut myself all up into a bloody mess. With this electric, I do notice some discomfort after having shaved a second time in a day, but it gets a nice close shave. A little after shave takes care of the sting, and I'm good to go again. - No mess. I really don't miss having to use shaving cream, even my nifty hot-lather shaving cream. The Cons: - Motor power seems to wind down a bit towards the end of the battery charge. It's not too bad, but it seems to take longer to shave at the end of the charge, and I don't want to charge it early for fear of damaging the battery. - This is really a minor quibble, but I thought I'd mention it: Since this razor rinses clean under tap water, what few bits of hair are still left over are sitting in water over night. Every time I use the razor, for the first minute of shaving, it smells very strongly of old, wet hair. Tips: - Blade users: Apply less pressure than you're used to. I find I get a better shave when the razor is touching the skin firmly, noticibly, but not pressing in at all. - Rinse it out every day, and turn the faucet up high. If you let it go a couple days without rinsing, it's much harder to clean out. It only takes a couple seconds, so why not? - Shave daily. I find that if I let my beard get a little longer the shaver still does a pretty good job. However, there will always be a few hairs that grew too long, curling down, that are not lifted by the razor head. Just shave daily, when you only have stubble, to avoid this. - Get a makeup mirror! These little mirrors are concave, magnifying your face so you can see where you've missed more easily. I mounted mine to the wall, slightly below my chin. Now I can more easily see if I've shaved my neck well.

| Editorial Review :
Equipped with a dial that varies the spring and pressure of its three floating heads through nine settings to suit skin sensitivity, this corded/cordless electric shaver offers customized shaving comfort. For its Spectra models, Norelco has improved the patented Lift and Cut, below-skin shaving technology of its two-stage cutting system, which provides slots for longer hairs and holes for stubble while the floating heads adjust individually to facial contours. A full-width trimmer pops up for neat work on sideburns and mustaches. On the front is an LED meter that tells how many minutes of shaving time remain when the shaver is operating cordless on its lithium-ion battery. A six-minute quick charge is good for a single shave, while a one-hour full charge provides 100 minutes of cordless shaving. The shaver fits the hand beautifully and goes on the road in a travel pouch while automatically adjusting to worldwide voltage variances. It carries a 60-day, full-satisfaction, money-back guarantee and a two-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Questions & Answers
Question : How should I shave? razor or electric shavers?
I have a lot of acne on my face and I don't know what kind of razor is suitable for my skin.
What do you suggest: electric shavers e.g. Philips Norelco or razors e.g. Gillette Fusion Power?
If electric shaver is better, which kind of them will you suggest?
Philips CoolSkins, SpeedXL, arcitec, ...
Answer:
Well I'm a girl so I never shave my face, but I know from shaving my legs if you use a razor and you have a spot or bump on your legs it cuts you,so I think your only option it to use eletric shavers,The most well knowen brands are probable best, why not ask at a chemist or weaever you bye your saver, they bound to know what is most popular and what works best
good luck!

Question : Is it possible for some shavers to leave your legs "hairless" for longer than others?
The disposable ones.
For example, the wilkinson's sword one (for women) against a normal boots/superdrug brand
Answer:
No, they would be the same
but if u want to try for hairless legs longer try the Nair Lotion, or Veet. I've tryed it and it just burns the hair away. you dont feel a thing i think its way easier than using razors ( plus no razor burn or cuts!! )
hoped i helped!! =)

Question : What's the difference between electric shavers with foil and rotating heads, and which is the best one to buy?
Not interested in fancy extras such as 'Clean & Renew', and the shaver should be equipped with a MAINS facility at least.
Thanks for any recommendations guys!
Answer:
If you are black, get a philishave with rotating heads and different cutting degrees and moisturiser, cos them other ones are gonna mash your skin up. Black man's hair is different, a lot thicker and curlier. Don't get a foil one.

Question : Which electric shavers, shave closer? The circular ones (with 3 circles) or the flat surfaced ones?
Has anyone used both types of electric shavers? And if so which do you like better? I've learned the expensive ones last longer but I don't want to waste money buying the wrong one. Thanks for reading.
Answer:
Hubby was a manager of a personal grooming specialist store and he says...
It depends on a number of different things. Do you experience shaving rash, redness or swelling after, during a shave? If you do, the rotary (3 circles) are no good unless you pay top dollar for the new phillips arcitec range. Stick with Braun range of shavers from the 5000 series up, make sure they have the newer foil (top part) as it means less strokes up the face, hence less irritation.
If you have a thick beard (not a full beard but the individual hair is thick) unfortunately the Braun isn't as strong as it tries to express and it's off to the Phillips range. If you don't have the $490+ for the Arcitec then drop down to the 9190 or 9170, these last two have excellent battery life and exceptional power for the thicker beards.
If you are a shower shaver, don't buy the wet/dry shavers from phillips. The Panasonic wet/dry does a phenominal job and works better if you shave straight after a shower using a shaving balm. You'll get awesome results. One thing you want to remember, don't buy from the big department stores, they know nothing and won't be able to help you if something doesn't work as you wish.
There are always solutions to finding the best shave and you could definately do well to ask at the Shaver Shop for this kind of advice/assistance without the pressure.
He uses the Braun 360 and it gives him a great shave but he's got sensitive skin and not a thick beard. Any other advice, he does know his stuff. My bathroom is filled with stuff that makes it easier and it does an awesome job.

Question : Is there an actual phobia from the fear of electric shavers?
Maybe it's related to the electrical sound or the fear of being cut while shaving?
Answer:
Hello! There probably is but the name for it does not seem to have been invented yet. Am sure that, if you are scared of electric shavers, then you are not the only one. Maybe it is the insecurity that it will slip that is the problem? Or indeed that you are afraid that you will cut yourself? Maybe because it is electric, you fear you do not have control over it yet it is still your hand using it and you are directing it? It is not a robot and it will "obey" you. Are you scared of any other electric appliances? I used to be scared of electric mowing-machines. Think I once saw a scary movie about it :o) . Maybe just enter "fear of electric shavers" on a search engine? Good luck!

Question : what is the difference between ice shavers and sno-cone machines?
please help?
Answer:
nothing

Question : Why are replacement blades for shavers ei: Gillette Mach 3, etc so expensive?
I've checked-out the prices and no pharmacy or store has them for under $8.00 for 4, they are usually $9.97 or 16.97 for package of 4 or 8, which is ridiculous!
Answer:
I'm pretty sure that the more expensive shavers are supposed to last you longer and be nicer for your skin than the disposable ones.
2 dollars for each replacement razor doesn't sound so bad.
|
Question : Are there any websites that recycle electric shavers?
I have an electric shaver that burnt out. Please provide websites.
Answer:
yes its called the trash
|
Question : Where is the cheapest place to get mens shavers?
I don't really have time to order on the internet because I need it for Father's Day. I'm looking to spend around $100.
Answer:
Maybe try BigLots if there is any near where you live, they have some shavers for pretty cheap.. also JC Pennys.
|
Question : are electric shavers better for the environment?
I bought a electric shaver so i would not have to buy shaving cream and blades. It also saves me hot water. I do have to charge it up every 3 weeks. and replace the screen every year.
Answer:
I would say yes, because if you use disposables, obviously that isn't good, and even those little razor blades in the old fashioned replacable razors are going into the land fill. If you shaved in the shower or something it might be energy efficient. But I think it is probably electric shavers are the best... plus they don't risk a cut up face!
