Editorial Review :

This self-cleaning travel shaver is great for taking on the road as it shaves fast and cleans up with little mess or fuss. The EL 6000 fully charges in less than an hour and also has a quick charge feature if you need to sneak a shave in a hurry. The rotary shaver’s flexible shaving head moves with the contours of your face for a smoother, closer shave, with fewer nicks. In addition, the head hosts ten separate razor blades which rotate at high speed to shave closely and comfortably. This shaver contains a pop-up trimmer for grooming sideburns, mustaches, or beards. When shaving is complete, the EL 6000 cleans up quickly and easily, as it is equipped with the world’s first rotary inner blade. To activate cleaning, remove the foil and lock the protective cap over the blades, and then simply run water over the built-in rotary washer brush. The vented cap lets water in over the blades, and with the help of the water flow, pushes razor stubble out, resulting in thoroughly clean blades. The shaving kit includes a water-resistant travel bag, a worldwide charging adaptor, a cleaning brush, and is covered by Eltron under a one-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

EL-6000 Wisker Pulling

Received as a Fathers Day Gift. Provides a very good shave with a 1 to 2 day beard. However with a 3 to 4 day beard the shaver would capture and pull individual whiskers. On my shaver the whiskers are being captured between the foil and plastic end caps. I have made this issue known to Eltron and will see what their response will be. Other than the tourture of the whisker pulling the shaver does an excellent job. Hopefully this is a bad manufacturing run issue and not a design issue. I like the shaver enough that I am devising a fix should Eltron not be interested. This is the only rotary (reel) shaver that is available in the USA as it is almost impossible to get the Hitachi equivalent here. Hitachi has a wet/dry version that is very interesting.

Favorite shaver

First off my background. I have always used electric shavers. I do not like vibrating shavers at all.

Long ago, circa late 1990, I bought a Hitachi rotary shaver. Although it had unique problems I really liked that shaver. It had two spinning heads that were ultra smooth with zero vibration. But alas Hitachi left the US market and I could not get parts to replace the heads. So I moved on to Norelco. The heads on Norelco's rotaries, 3 circular heads, are not nearly as smooth as Hitachi's cylinder rotary.

Fast forward to 2008. I discovered that Hitachi makes a rotary shaver under the Eltron name sold in the US. It has the same rotary cutters as my previous Hitachi but only one. At around $50 I had to give it a try. Could I get the magic back?

Review: This rotary shaving system is the same as my old one. It has some features that are improvements and some are not.

First the not so good. The case is made of kind of a cheap plastic. This is definitely not one of Hitachi's high end machines, which are apparently only available in Japan. It only has one cutter head. This is not a problem but I would have spurged for a two head model. This model also has an inherent problem at both ends of the foil, as previously reported. Hair does tend to get stuck in there and it pulls. This is a design flaw. However, I have discovered that if something like clear nail polish is applied to the ends the problem disappears. Also if the shaver is low on battery the shaver can stop during shaving while still locked on the beard. This can be unpleasant but it rarely occurs. It also does not do particularly well with a beard grown for a few days (that was also the problem with the original Hitachi).Leave that to Norelco which is also more quiet. Lastly, the battery is nickel cadium so it is subject to memory loss.

The good: This shaver is ultra smooth with no vibration, but please remember that this shaver is designed to work in one direction. It is currently my everyday favorite shaver. I use it in conjuction with a Norelco 9000 series for those days when I have skipped shaving for a couple. The Elton shaves at least as close or closer than the Norelco. It has a unique, built-in cleaning method that is excellent. The popup trimmer is easier to use than the one on the Norelco. If the battery is low it can be used with the cord immediately. It comes with a nice case and is a steal at $50.

Awful

Worst gadget that I bough to do a bikini line

The trimmer really didn't impress me. I'm sorry I spent 18.00$ (canadian money)for that. I'll continue using neet bikini products.

You get what you pay for!

Well, the old saying that "you get what you pay for" is certainly true in this case! The trimmer not only scapes your skin but leaves the same red bumps that razors do--I even cut myself! It's difficult to use, and on top of all this it isn't very effective. The comb attachments are nice for trimming up longer hair, but for short hair this is worthless. I would say either stick to a regular razor or invest some money and get a better electric trimmer.

Useless piece (...)

I had seen this on TV, and it had been mentioned in the Oprah magazine, so when I saw it for ten bucks I decided to try it. I shouldn't have bothered. I'm going to see what the store's return policy is...the thing is a complete waste of time. I shave my bikini area normally anyway, so the hair was already very short--I figured that would help. Wrong! It made no noticeable change in the number of hairs or the length thereof. Save your money and get a bikini wax. This thing is useless.

Terrible!!!

This is the worst hair remover!! It doesn't work at all. It just rips at your skin leaving the hair on and your skin off. Left me irritated for a week(and I shave all the time so my skin is not sensitive).BEWARE- DO NOT USE!!!!!

Works well for low price

This is the third one of these I've purchased, at $30 or less I find it cheaper to replace the entire shaver when the blades get dull that to replace the blades and foil. Unfortunately the blades get dull REALLY quick, like after 4-5 months.

Question : Grooming an Old English Sheepdog?
I've got an Old English Sheepdog (Dave) and I was wondering if anyone has some grooming tips. I have to spend a lot of time brushing his coat which isn't that long. Probably 4inches long. His coat will still get mats close to the skin around some parts of his body, eg under his chin, chest area and also his legs. I do the usual grooming and have the tools but if anyone has some tips it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Answer:
I have Afghan hounds, with similar coat issues. If I finish the grooming, and then spritz ShowSheen on my brush and go over the coat, (especially where it mats most) it keeps the mats from reforming so quickly. Also, Show Sheen applied generously on the feet keeps away grass stains. It also makes the hair more elastic, so it doesn't break so much..Your brush will have less broken coat. But, if used too heavily, will appear oily. Question : What is your opnion of men who shave their body hair?
Personally, they look like plucked chickens. But, now it seems to be a common practice. Does this practice invade personal grooming and based in what our media says what is sexy? Or am I out of touch? Now, some men are naturally hairless, and that's fine, but that's not what I'm addressing.

Answer:
I don't like lots of hair...I don't wanna be able to run my fingers through it...but at the same time I also don't really like shaved...Trimmed is for me.... Guess i'm kinda like goldie locks.......too much, too little , jst right.....hope the bears don't come home... but seriously I think it's sexy to see the male form with body hair trimmed and shaped a bit... Peace and Love

Question : Are men self conscious about their body hair?
I know women are and that's why we're constantly trimming, plucking, waxing, shaving, etc and etc. Honestly, I don't think guys have to worry about anything but facial hair because it is quite noticeable and expected by society to maintain groomed. What are your thoughts?

Question : What are the best deshedding tools for grooming dogs.?
Okay, I admit it, I can get into the propaganda thing! Brutus, my newfie, can produce a houseful of shedding in one minute. Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration. I've seen this furminator things. They cost a lot. My last furbaby (lab/shep/? mix) didn't have a double coat so he only needed occassional grooming. (Although we pretty much did it daily because he who held the brush is was loved.) Brutus needs daily grooming. Sometimes, twice daily. Can anyone recommend good grooming tools to reduce the hair. If this furminator really a good thing? What about other tools? The name "furminator" puts in mind a bald dog shivering the cold and having all fur terminated on his body. gasp.

Answer:
A newfie not only has a double coat, they have a long double coat. In order to remove the loose hair, you need tools that will get literally "to the bottom of things" and enable you to brush out the coat from down at skin level. I would suggest 3 tools: First, a matbreaker or an undercoat rake. If the dog has any matted areas, or spots where the coat is so thick it seems too dense to get through, the matbreaker is probably best. If the coat is in good shape, a rake will help remove the dead undercoat. Work from the skin out and literally break up the dense areas or matted coat. Work methodically through every inch of the dog, usually starting with the back quarters and working forward. Use your hand to part the hair in lines as you go, so you can easily keep track of what areas you've brushed. Second, use a slicker brush. For a newfie's coat, the Franks Univerasal slicker in size Large is probably best. The pins on these professional grade brushes are strong enough to get all the way down into a newfie's coat. Again, line brush from the skin out, not just over the top of the coat. Don't forget classic "trouble spots" behind the ears, and in the armpit and groin areas. Lastly, use a good metal comb with at least 1 1/8 inch long teeth spaced 1/8 of an inch apart, to get the last of the loose coat and as a way of checking to make sure you've gotten all the dead coat and matts out. A "greyhound style" in Medium/coarse or what is called a "poodle comb" is what the pros use and is well worth the money you pay for a good one. Those combs with the rotating teeth that claim to remove undercoat don't work well and break easily, and the Furminator on a coat like a newfie will be equally ineffective. Shedding blades are pretty worthless on long coats, as well. Put a bit of money into good equipment and it not only will do the job, but will last. You can probably pick up all three tools for less than you would spend at the groomer to have your dog done professionaly. You can also check with a local groomer for advice on proper tools. Most times they will be happy to help you out, and even show you how to get the job done, knowing that they could gain a potential customer when you decide you need help, and also knowing that you've made at least some effort at home grooming and so most likely your dog will be accustomed to the process.

Question : Body Grooming, Not Shaving on Men?
I am curious what people think about men grooming their body, not acutally shaving, but if you have long under arm or chest hair (of course privates too), groom it to a nice neat length.

Answer:
Swimmers shave their bodies of all hair. Some women find it masculine to have body hair, others find that too much, like the back or face to be gross. Others find that too little hair is feminine. I would think that trimming some of the privates would be okay, but more importantly would be to make sure you are not shedding or have any loose hairs down there if you are going to be intimate. Also, shaving the testes and the general area down there would be nice for oral and tactile encounters. I would leave your chest hair alone. It's so sexy and masculine. Seeing it poking out of a shirt is irrisistable to look at and screams: I am a MAN! Same with the under arm hair. Sure, it makes putting your deoderant on tougher, but you can handle it. Keep it, that's what makes you a man, separates you from us and honestly, it's all damn sexy!

Question : How should I present grooming issues to my girlfriend?
I have recently started a new relationship and I really enjoy being with her. We have a lot of chemistry, a good sex life, and communicate with each other very well. I have one concern and it stems from her personal grooming habits of body and pubic hair. She has some body hair that I would prefer be removed; and as far as pubic hair, she has not had much experience in the bedroom and does not groom in the area; I am not asking for total clean shaved, but trimmed would be a nice improvement. I am also more than willing to trim myself in that region as well. If it were any other aspect of our relationship, I would feel comfortable bringing it up nicely/directly. However she already has an issue with being self conscience about her body. Is this something I am going to have to live with, or is there a tactful way I might approach the subject that would not hurt her feelings?

Answer:
That is a tough one. I would say you are probably going to her her feelings either way you go if she is sensitive. I would focus on letting her know what turns you on...i.e. being a little more clean shaven, and don't let it sound like you are complaining about her specifically. Tell her you find her sexy but everyone has preferences. Better yet, start the conversation by asking her what her preferences are. Good luck.

Question : Is it gay for a man to trim his body hair?
Is it gay for a man to trim his body hair? I normally trim my arms, underarms, chest, stomach, pubes, butt, and legs. Is this a gay thing for a man to do? I just like to be well groomed.

Answer:
OMG TRIMMING ITS AWESOME! GUYS WITH ALL THAT HAIR EWW DISGUSTING LIKE FOR REAL!!!

Question : What's the best way to groom body/chest hair?
I recently bough an electric shaver, and I was wondering if it would be appropriate to use to get rid of chest/body hair? I know that there are devices that are geared specifically for this, but I was wondering if guys sometimes just use a regular electric shaver for the removal of body hair?

Answer:
wax it but if your a wimp shave it. it'll grow back quick if you shave it though.

Question : braun bodycruzer vs philips body groom or other choices?
ok, so im kinda hairy lool, and was looking to get rid of it. i dont want waxing, since ive heard its painful, and laser is kinda expensive for now. so today at wal mart i saw the philips body groom, 50 bucks, pretty good price, but does it really work? and does it make body smooth? or just trim? and tonight on tv i saw the braun bodycruzer? hows that 1? which 1 should i get? thanks

Answer:
Hi there - i think the best option is to go & check the websites for both - Braun bodycruZer and Philips bodygroomer. The Braun bodycruzer is a combination of wet & dry - it has a trimmer and a blade and as a result gives you both options - you can trim or clean shave.
