HOT TIP

I have found that you can buy Nivea shaving gel at any store for about three bucks and use the gel just as you would with a razor blade. It actually works better than the pump Nivea inside the shaver and super cheap. This eliminates the need for the expensive refills. This is the absolute best shaver I have ever used and it is as good a blade shave.

Great Shaver

I always had great luck with the norelco shavers and this one is no differnt. Close shave, easy to clean and I can use it in the shower. I recommend this saver to anyone who is sick of using disposable razors.

Good enough for my son, but ease up on the packaging

This review will be brief and I have two points to make: 1) my positive experience with it was such that it became the shaver of choice when it came time for to get one for my son, and 2) the packaging is out of control and potentially unsafe. I bought this shaver in 2005 and have been so pleased with it, when it came time for my son to have a quality electric shaver the decision to go with this one for him was an easy one. He has sensitive skin, so it was important that the shaver not produce any irritation. Going with the Cool Shaver a second time was an easy decision to make.
However, the one problem I have is that liberating the shaver from the packaging was a major project. It took a full ten minutes with fresh blade in my utility knife to complete the task. Why is this necessary? Is Norelco risking any liability in utilizing this packaging? Clearly, the shaver and parts cannot be accessed by simple unwrapping. They must be surgically removed with a very sharp blade. It there is a safer and simpler way to do this, instructions should be placed on an obvious place on the outside of the box.

smooth shave but inconvenient charge

Just got 7737x which is similar to 7735x. Shaves very smoothly. Only complain is the charger. Not as convenient as my old Philips which doesn't require a separate charging station and can also be used while plugged in. Unplugging each time when fully charged is also a hassle. But I cant complain much since I got mine at Marshals for only 30 bucks.

Messy and costly, but a good shave

I owned this shaver for awhile, but then I turned to the Mach 3 and eventually the Fusion. Being frustrated with a poor shave, I bought a Braun 360 and then a Norelco 8150XL. None of these options provided a closer or faster shave than the 7735X. This shaver by far gives me the closest shave and in a short amount of time. I originally moved away from this shaver to skip the cost of lotion cartridges and the messy exchanges. However after all of the other shaving methods I've tried, I'll live with the extra cost and the goo.

Great for women too!

I have had this razor for about 18 months and I love too! I noticed that no women were commenting on the razor for themselves and thought I should mention that this razor does a great job on legs and underarms. I purchased this one instead of a woman's razor because I liked the self-cleaning aspect of this machine.

This razor has enough battery charge to last for the 15 minutes or more that it sometimes takes us girls to cover all the required territory (unlike a man's face).

I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend that other women consider this product for themselves. Why should guys get all the high tech things?

Lots of great features. The only thing thing this system doesn't do well is shave. I find myself shaving 3 times as often as I used to.

Great for and electric razor, but does not eliminate all the razor burn if you have sensitive skin. It has been 6 months and I still get red bumps. Easy clean, easy to travel with.

Hey, It's an electric

I suppose the shaver does what it is supposed to do. It's just that I have used a blade since my Norelco died 30 odd years ago and am not used to electric shaving. I was hoping that improvements in design might actually lead to a close, comfortable shave. But alas, all the bells and whistles do is give the same old sort of close, razor burn shave. Braun states in the directions to give it 3 weeks for your beard to adjust to the shaver as if using the thing will cause a physiological change in your facial hair that magically allows the shaver to cut more close and comfortable after 21 days. Don't count on it. The automatic cleaning/charging unit is a nice feature but does not improve the shave. The reconditioned unit works just fine. No problems there. It's just that the shave is more of a "clean up the face for work" shave than a "rub cheek with your girl" shave.

I use this every now and then but it takes forever to get a decent shave, probably will be last refurb I ever buy. I have the feeling if I bought a new set of blades it would be night and day. If something is sold as a refurb isn't it supposed to be inspected and brought up to factory standards. As far as construction of unit and battery life they are fine. I happened to be writing a review for a brilliant Oral Breeze irrigator when other products I bought came up for review so decided to state my piece on this even though I've had it for six months or more. I'm convinced it is a good product and design, but was sent out with worn out blades. I've never been much of an electric shaver fan but using a friend's at his weekend house was impressed - totally different experience than what I received. I should have complained right away. I'm told that most refurbs are not done at the factory but contracted out to refurb houses, I can't imagine Braun (a company I've always respected) sending out a unit like this. You would think blades, even as a matter of hygiene, would be totally replaced in a refurb.

Great shaver

Gave this as a gift to my Father-in-law and he is astounded. Say's its the best shaver he's owned! Flexible head is a nice feature. Battery keeps a good charge. Shaves close. The trimmer does only a moderate job on sideburns, especially if they are longer. but it's good for single single hairs on neck that the shaver misses. It seems the teeth are so close together it has a hard time getting through thicker hair. Oh well, that's what barbers are for.

OK for the money

This shaver is not that great. It is OK if you are cheap. It is loud and vibrates so hard it will make your hand numb. It is also irritating on the skin. I purchased the Remington MS2-390 because it was rated a Best Buy in this month's CR. It shaves closer with less irritation. It is a better shaver. The Wahl was rated last of all the foil shavers tested. The Wahl did do a better job than the $250 Braun I returned, but the Braun was less irritating.

Good simple shaver

Forgot the wall wart for my last shaver in some nameless hotel...discovered buying this entire shaver was cheaper than buying a replacement wall wart for the old shaver...which I hated. This shaver reminds me of a great square Remington model from many years ago; I really like it's solid construction and that it won't turn on in my luggage. I got the default screen & it doesn't shave extremely close as a result...not a big deal, other than I get a shadow earlier in the day this way. The only other criticism is that with the power cord plugged into the bottom, it won't stand upright. But the battery is solid enough you don't have to charge it very often. I have no idea how Wahl can give this away for about $25, but I'm thankful to find such a cheap sturdy shaver. With the $125 I saved off buying a replacement for my old shaver I can buy a couple gallons of gas ... 8-O

I have bought three of these inexpensive shavers, two as gifts. They outperform the Norelcos I had. Parts are inexpensive, and Wahl folks are service-oriented and competent. This one was a gift to a friend's teenage son. I fully expect that, like my very old model, it will provide years of trouble free service.
