Norelco 7865XL

I am trying to use electric shaver for the first time and I did not like it better than shaving with twin blade razor. I tried few times to shave and it sucks. It feels so good to go back to twin blade razor again. I think I will never try electric shaver again. It is much more painful than using a twin blade razor.

FAIR TO MIDDELING

BLESSED WITH A LIGHT BEARD, THE UNIT DOES ME JUST FINE. CLEANING THE UNIT IS A LITTLE CUMBERSOME. FAST RECHARGE.

Norelco

I find the product performs well and holds a charge well into 4 days. It does take a break-in period for your face and the razor. You have to stick with it through an "uncomfortable" period. Overall a very good product.

DON'T BUY THIS SHAVER!!!

I've owned Norelco's for over 20 years now and this is the worst!
The side trimmer doesn't cut anything, the charge only lasts one week and the shaver causes a rash on my neck. My old Norelco's side trimmers always cut right so I think they ought to fire the engineer that designed this one. All the previous Norelco's I've owned had a charge that lasted two weeks so I think they are skimping out on the batteries they use. The design of the head is lousy; the stupid holes actually cause a rash on my neck.
I know they say to apply less pressure but if you do then you don't get a close shave on the rest of your face. The other thing I hate is the external adaptor on the cord. The old Norelco had a slim cord with no stupid adaptor on it. The only good thing I can say about this shaver is that it is easy to clean under warm water, but what good is this if you are not getting a close shave and developing rashes on your neck!

Great Razor

I bought this razor for my boyfriend who was tired of shaving all the time. I gave this to him a while ago and it is still kicking and he's still using it. The built-in power indicator makes it easy for him to figure out when to recharge it. It's portable so it's great for travel and not having to bring along the recharger on every trip "just in case" is a definite added bonus. Of course, it's never going to shave as close as a traditional razor but you can't beat it for convenience.

This is got to be the best razor that I have ever owned. Now, it is the
only one that I use. My husband is happy that I have my own. Now, it
is he that wants to borrow mine!!!!
It is light weight, but it performs like a heavy duty shaving machine;
packs well for trips, in its own traveling case.

Editorial Review :

Users switching from another dry electric razor to the Spectra will notice the difference at first shave. A plethora of features contribute to the comfortable shave that this model of the Spectra provides. First, there are three round floating heads that rotate in multiple directions to move with the contours of your face, and align the blades closer to your skin for a smoother shave. Each razor head offers two stages of cutting: slots to tackle the longer hairs and round holes to cut the stubble. Equipped with Norelco’s Lift & Cut technology, the blades even cut below skin level so not a hint of stubble is left on the face. Using the comfort control dial along the side of the shaver, users can personalize their shave by choosing from nine different settings to accommodate all skin conditions from normal to sensitive. For men with beards, sideburns, or mustaches, a full-width pop-up trimmer flips up on the back of the Spectra for specialized grooming. When shaving is complete, the Spectra simply rinses clean under the water tap. This rechargeable cordless razor is ideal for travelers, automatically adjusting to any voltage throughout the world, from 100V to 240V. Just one hour of charging on the included cord produces 45 minutes of uninterrupted shaving time, and a 6-minute quick-charge feature is helpful for sneaking a fast 3-minute shave. Battery indicators show when the razor is fully charged and when recharging is necessary. The 8825XL includes a storage pouch for travel, a coil cord, a protective cap for the razor head, and a cleaning brush. Norelco offers a 60-day money-back guarantee on this shaver in addition to a two-year warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

Very Good

After many years of using the Braun "straight blade" electric razor, I was very pleasantly surprised by how well and easily this shaved. My only disappointment is that there's no LED display for when the razor's power is low--it just stops. I still hate to shave, but for the $70 I paid for this, its great and I highly recommend it.

Great Electric Shaver

Philips Norelco 8825XL Spectra Rechargeable Cord/Cordless Men's Shaving System This is the best shaver that I ever had. It does a great job & gives you a very close shave. It doesn't leave your face with a razor burn. I like a very close shave & this gives me what I want.

you won't be sorry

Used over one year - very satisfied. I bought another Norelco, cheaper than this one, for a back-up and was surprised that it did not shave as well as this one. Based on my experience, the more expensive Norelco models shave closer and more efficiently. If you have the money, spend it. I am going to try the newer Arcitec model (which is now Norelco's top of the line) to see if it is equal or better.

PS: For those looking for the same shave they get from a wet razor - stop fooling yourself - electric is a timesaver, not an equivalent shave.

Keeps falling apart!

It's a pricey razor yet it keeps coming apart! The hinge used to hold on the head is made out of really bad metal that twists and rusts and the head comes off very easily as a result. I wouldn't trust Norelco ever sice the merge with Phillips. To add insult to injury, the head fell on the floor by accident and it shattered to pieces. I busted out my Gilette fusion and got a much better shave in seconds flat with none of the hassle. Goodbye Norelco and goodbye electric razors.

My first Norelco

This is my first Norelco. I read a lot of bad and good review and I still decided to get it. I won't say it is bad but not as good as I would think by comparing with other electric kind. Never compare with the manual one.

Good Shaver...Poor Cleaner

I happen to like rotary shavers as opposed to foil so I happen to love this one. It's quiet, shaves fast and keeps a charge for a long time. I replaced a Braun foil which was a good shaver, but it was too loud and I didn't like how hot it became after shaving for only a few seconds. I also seemed to replace the foil more than necessary because it would break apart. One thing Braun has perfected though is the cleaning system. I don't know if Norelco decided to rush some sort of cleaner into production to compete with Braun or if it's just not as easy to design a cleaner for a rorary shaver, but the Jet Clean system is a joke and can only be understood fully by users of the Braun system. I do like the shaver though and got it for a good price on Amazon so I just put the Jet Cleaner in storage (maybe it should go in the trash :)) and I rinse the shaver under water to clean it which works very well.

Good for face. Ok for head

I recently started shaving my head and looked at the cost of cartridge razors and replacing them weekly or every two weeks. I thought an electric would save a lot after the initial cost of the razor.

Face Shaving: Reasonably fast and a no stubble cut. I don't have a full beard so the razor is more than adequate to cut my mustache, chin, and front part of the neck. Due to the direction of hair growth you might have to make a couple of passes over the same area. I can have a smooth shave in less than 5 minutes, rubbing with or against the grain.

Head Shaving: This takes about 20 minutes with the electric alone. You have to go slow or make several passes to get everything. The time tradeoff isn't that great so I've gone back to blades for head shaving. Where the razor really comes through is touch up work after using a blade. Since hair on the scalp grows in different directions, you're never going to get it all unless you really carve up your scalp. An electric lets you work an area in a circular motion and get all the stubble. It's also really good for times when you aren't near a sink or you've got some annoying stubble you need gone right now.

I wouldn't sell the razor now that it is part of my routine and I doubt there is such thing as a perfect razor. If you want to go electric then it's a good razor. If you want to use it on your head, keep in mind that it won't be your primary razor and you'll be bringing it with you keep things smooth until you can get to a blade.

Keep in mind I'm picky (and so is my girlfriend). A good shave means you should be able to rub your fingers across the skin surface from any direction and not feel stubble. I think a combination of blade and electric will help you get close to the perfect shave.

Wow.. what a shaver

The fact that you can hold this under tap water to clean it is alone a great feature. But there is so much more, including the way it shaves your face without pulling on your beard even if it is long (most times for me). It also has a nice battery indicator screen and notifies you when you need to clean the thing. The battery lasts forever, seriously it is sometimes hard to believe how long it lasts.. buy this shaver, it is awesome.

A great razor with nice options.

I really like this razor. This razor avoids a lot of the useless options and has many useful ones (like the lcd display with battery life - which is very nice if you travel often like I do). It shaves well and comes with a hard travel protective case (good for travel as well). If you can find it at a great price, buy it.

Best Shaver I've Used So Far

I'm almost 59 years old and have been using an electric shaver (almost always Norelco) since I started shaving at 13. I've been using this shaver for about a month. I find it gives me a much closer shave than my previous Norelco and is much faster to boot. I seem to average about 4 minutes for a shave. The display indicates 85 minutes of shaving on a full charge. When I got down to 7 minutes the display then rapidly counted down to zero, curious. The charging cord now has a small transformer lump on the outlet side making it bulkier than the cord only arrangement on my old Norelco. While a nice zippered case is provided for the shaver, there is no provision for packing the charger cord. The included stand seems a little flimsy. The manual warns not to keep the shaver plugged into the charger continuously or battery life would be shortened. The manual further warns that the shaver should be charged no longer than 1 hour after the initial 4 hour charge. I don't know why there couldn't be an electronic circuit to limit the charge without having to worry about causing battery damage. Cleaning the head is a simple matter of rinsing under hot water. I admit that I'm a hopeless techie and I do enjoy the digital display however if you wanted to save $50 you could get the model without it and still have much of the same functionality.

Bear in mind that satisfaction with a particular shaver is very subjective and variable. I have a moderately coarse beard and no significant ingrown hairs. My ethnicity is east European Ashkenazim. Your experience may vary.

Questions & Answers
Question : How old do you have to be to start shaving your facial hair?
I only have hair on my stache, is it a good idea to shave only there? What are some pros and cons in shaving early and at a younge age? When i say "younge age" i mean early teens. What should i use to shave such as a one bladed razer or three bladed? Any good company that has good shaver? What makes a good shaver? Will my skin be erritaded by shaving? Do you have any tips on shaving? Should i wait until i'm older to shave or shave now? What's the best type of shaver? Whats the best type of shaving cream? The hair is very visible. And will my skin be effected in any way? Is it better to shave up and down or across?

Answer:
I started shaving when I was about 15. When you should start depends on genetics really. Some males just have more hair than others, and they start developing facial earlier or later. Shaving will irritate your skin at first. My suggestion is to use a hot, moist towel on your face before you begin shaving. This will open up your pores, and make the hairs stand up. Then carefully shave with a razor. I use a razor with 3 blades, but it really doesn't matter. Any razor will do as long as you don't hurry. Shave with the grain of your hair. I get a better result shaving downwards, but you can shave upwards too. After you finish shaving, wash your face with cold water. This closes off the pores in your skin and prevents irritation. Then finish off by splashing your face with a mild after shave. This kills any germs and prevents those little red bumps. I hope this helped you out.

Question : At what age should you start shaving your pubic hair?
At what age should you start shaving your pubic hair?

Answer:
Most people never do. It is a hassle with no good effect. I would say just wax your bikini line. Don't shave it because it's easy to get nicks. Don't wax the pubic area only, because it can damage skin. If you do shave it, try using only soap you normally use, because most shaving creams and conditioners leave irritating rashes!

Question : Does shaving frequently really cause facial hair to grow faster and thicker?
I'm 17 My facial hair started growing a while ago but it does not grow thick and it grows in patches. I want that stubble look but not in patches Will shaving more help the hair grow thicker?

Answer:
Of course not. Shaving cuts off dead hair tissue, it grows from the bottom. Shaving doesn't do anything magical to your hair, any more than just rubbing or massaging your hand across the beard area. Many men have patchy beards, so they just can't have the "stubble" look. It may grow in eventually, but if you have to shave some whiskers daily and there are bare patches, most likely they will stay bare.

Question : Why is Britney considered crazy for shaving her head, when Natalie Portman and Demi Moore did the same thing?
Excluding everything else that happened (Umbrellas, etc) If she just shaved her head, she'd be considered crazy anyways. Demi Moore and Natalie Portman shaved their heads aswell, but there wasn't this huge deal about it. I know Britney shaving her head was a psychological thing deeper than just shaving her head for shits and giggles. But why do you think?

Answer:
Yes, Demi and Natalie shaved their heads for their movie roles but still, if Britney shaved her head for a movie role she'd still be considered crazy and people would still make a big deal about it. It's because she's Britney Spears. Demi Moore and Natalie Portman were never the teenage popstar girly girl that Britney Spears was in the beginning of her career. What Britney turned into shocked everyone, because it's such a big contrast from who she was in the beginning, that's why people consider her crazy for shaving her head and doing the things she has done.

Question : What is the best razor/shaving cream for thick facial hair?
I'm a 21 year old guy with light skin and dark hair. I have really thick/dark facial and my skin gets easily irritated. What razor and shaving cream do you recommend for me? Also, I want a really close shave. Should I shave in the opposite direction I normally would or go with the grain of my hair? Finally, I have red bumps on my neck after I shave. Are these ingrown hairs?

Answer:
Here's my suggestion: Buy a double-edged safety razor. They're old school but they shave just as well as the multi-blade systems on the market and they're more gentle on the skin. Not to mention, less expensive. As for shaving cream --- I recommend the line 'King of Shaves'. I was just turned onto this brand by doing a lot of research and it's good stuff. It has aloe and antiseptic properies, so it's good for ingrowns. Also, it's low foam, so you're able to see where you shave. It doesn't gunk up like other shaving creams either. Shave with the growth of the hair, then sideways.

Question : What can I do with sensitive skin and shaving?
I have always had very sensitive skin. When I shave I get tiny little bumps on my legs - mainly my thighs. It's really embarrassing! Are there any alternatives besides waxing? I use shaving gel, even the kind for sensitive legs, but it doesn't seem to help.

Answer:
Shaving gel is a gimmic. I don't have sensitive skin, but it's very dry and I've found even the best shaving cream for dry, sensitive skin does nothing but dry my skin out even more. Exfoliate your skin first to get rid of any bumps from dry, dead skin building up. This also helps with ingrown hairs...My husband doesn't shave his legs, never has, but I notice his thighs have a lot of ingrown hairs and exfoliating helps get rid of them. Use a thick, moisturizing conditioner instead of shaving cream. It's thick enough to protect your legs plus it moisturizes as well. And make sure you have a new razor too...the newer the razor, the fewer the knicks and cuts. You don't want the water to be too hot. This can dry your skin out, and even if it's sensitive...this can make it more sensitive. It's also better to shave after the skin has been soaking for a while. So if you have a bathtub...just lay in there and relax in the warm-mildly hot water for 10 or 15 minutes, then shave.

Question : Does shaving cream take the paint off of vehicles?
I'm planning a prank, but I don't want to harm any property. I need to know if shaving cream will harm a vehicle in any way.

Answer:
Shaving cream can be washed off easily. for your prank to be more effective, use something like nivea cream. it's really greasy and hard to come off. someone had done it to our teacher (happy times), they'd put lots of blobs of nivea cream (could be any other greasy cream=as in moisturizer) all over the car and then put little balls of coloured cotton wool on each of them. looked great, but you should have heard him swear...

Question : How to shave my knees and underarms? Any good shaving tips?
I am a girl, and i have been shaving my underarms for like 2 years, and even when i shave, my underarms still look dark. its like you can see the hair under the stin before it comes up again, do you know what i mean? and how to you solve this? i have dark hair, so blondes (luckily) dont really have this problem. ??? Ok question #2 is how do i shave my knees? i always think i get them really good in the morning but then i realize after that i missed a bunch. how do you shave your knees? is there anyway you do to keep them smooth ? do you shave your knees when your legs are straight or when they are bent and the skin is pulled taunt? please help! thank you! ♥ also do you have any other shaving tips for girls?

Answer:
I use a venus breeze and i love it!! oky let your underarm hair grow for about two days after that shave up and down and side to side and criss cross.your hair under your arms grows in different direstions and i had the same problem you do until i tried this. you might want to use venus or try using a guys razor that has four blades. and buy shaving cream that stands the hair up so you get a closer shave.and for your knees try nair or hair removal lotion. make sure to cover your entire knee in the lotion and bend it to make the skin tight. hope this helps

Question : How do I get rid of shaving rash & ingrowing hair?
OK I've started this new job where I have to be clean shaven but in doing so I have started getting shaving rash & ingrowing hair particulalry under my chin. I use good quality blades & discard them when blunt. I also use an after shave lotion. So please guys (& girls) any advise will be appreciated. Cheers B.

Answer:
put on colone. thats what my dad does. It stings a little but it works

Question : what age do males start shaving everyday?
I am 17 and I only shave like once a week to a week and a half and I can;t grow good facial hair. Mine is so scraggly and patchy, its just like dark peach fuzz in certain spots. What age do men start shaving the face like on a regular basis, and what age does the hair become full and thick?

Answer:
It varies from guy to guy. I was in the 6th grade and already had a moustache. I know several men in their 40's who only shave every other day. We're all different.
