Great razor, close shaves!
I bought this something like a month ago. It was bought sight unseen. I like to keep my razors for more than a couple of years and my old Braun razor was old enough that replacement blades were hard to come by. The Braun 9595 was a huge step up. I used Norelcos rotary shavers years ago, hated them. Then switched to Remmington razors but they were tough to buy replacement blades for after a year or two. I was overseas long term and my remington razor died. I picked up a Braun at the suggestion of a friend of mine and it worked so well I'd never think of switching to another brand. But time wore on as did replacement blades and they became tough to buy so I upped the money and bought a Braun 4000 or 7000 series, I think. Well it still works but blades are tough to buy. I bough the latest and greatest and most expensive Braun out there. the 9595. I have trouble shaving my neck, the hairs tend to grow sideways. It's misey to shave even with my old Braun. But this new one just shaves the hairs right off my face, no razor burn, nothing! I turn it on and chean it after about 3 shaves. It's a bit noisy on intensive clean, however I'm usually taking a shower so I don't care and it really cleans the razor very well. I did buy a replacement blade and will probably buy a couple more for when I go overseas again. I love the way this razor shaves. I'd buy another one in a minute. It's the best shaver I've ever owned. I don't think it shaves a lot closer than my old Braun but it doesn't give me any razor burn either and that alone is worth it. If you are thinking about buying one of these it's worth it. It just shaves so smoothly and easily and I have to shave every single day, so comfort is very high on my list and the hair doesn't grow back as fast for some reason. I usually have stubble by 3pm if I shave at 8am. Not with this razor, so that's another plus. I also bought a pack of cleaning solution. My biggest concern is will I be able to pack the solution in my luggage, since they don't sell this in the country I work in. I never thought I'd spend this much on a razor but I'm glad i bought it. I hope this review helps someone out.

Excellent Shave
First foil type razor I have owned and I will never go back to any other type. Great shave, no irritation. I actually enjoy using it. Love the self cleaning. Well worh the money!

Good Tech; Not so great durability and steep cleaning costs
I've owned a lot of shavers and like other reviewers, was looking for a better solution. Bought the expensive 9595 as soon as it was available. It does shave closely/well...which is the primary objective.
However, there are some downsides I've found in the year+ of ownership: 1) Very loud cleaning cycle! I have to do it early evening, because if I do it at night or in the morning, it keeps my wife awake (even with the door closed) and the dog also paces/whines. 2) Expensive Clean/Renew cartridges. You go through one about every month-6 weeks and at $6+/each, ... 3) Lately, the shaver just shuts off mid-shave after about 5 minutes, despite a full charge, fresh clean/renew cycle and a new cutter/foil head. Very frustrating. 4) Some of the silver paint near the shaver head has been flaking off. Wonder if it's from the clean/renew formulation. 5) The pop out clipper head (as of 2 days ago) doesn't pop back in and refuses to seat back into the shaver body, so I have to hold it closed while I shave.

Best Shaver & Best Price Ever!!
If you have always wanted the brand new latest technology Braun Pulsonic razor I recommend you visit your nearest Sears store. I just bought one (unopened, brand new) on clearance today (Cincinnati) for $100! No kidding. Listed for $269. The replacement heads were on clearance for $30. You can get the "360" model for $85. Felt like a kid on Christmas!! It took about 5 minutes getting it out of the plastic packaging which is held in place by some weird plastic rivots. I thought it was going to be vibrating up a storm..but didn't really feel anything out of the ordinary for an electric razor. It does work very well...but as others have stated I did have to rub a little more in certain areas on my neck. The automatic cleaner/charger (in my opinion) is more a gimmick than a necessity. But I like "gadgets" so it is fun to play with. Comfortable too with a cool sophisticated appearance. Full charge in under 1 hour. SD alcohol comes in the cleaning cartridge..and you probably could refill if you are inclined to do so. The alcohol supposedly comes with a fragrance and a lubricant which you may find more difficult to replacate since you don't have the exact formula.
What makes this story so interesting is I almost bought one at a local department store on sale for $219..and just by pure luck stumbled on the ones on clearance at Sears. Heck..even Walmart is charging $269 for these..and they only give their employees 5% off.
Good luck..and shop at sears next time you want a bargain!!

Best electric razor I have owned
I have been using electric razors for about 20 years. I have always stuck with the Norelco razors up until this purchase. Prior to this I had the top of the line Norelco. There is no comparison. This razor blasts through anything even after not shaving for several days. It is easy to clean, also a step up from the Norelco. The shave is much closer and it requires fewer passes. The only negatives to this razor are the noise and the trimmer which is just plain bad. I keep my Norelco around still just for the trimmer. The one on this razor is essentially a useless afterthought. Fortunately, that is not why I bought it.

Great Razor but "Automatic Charging" IS NOT Automatic
This is my first electric razer since shaving with a blade for the past 20+ years. I really like the convenience of shaving without cream, water, etc. The razor is nice and light and is very comfortable shaving. With a little practice, it gives a nice, clean shave. So far, I have not required any pre or post shaving lotion/cream to stay comfortable. It's also very easy to clean the heads..just put them under running water and out comes the hair. My only gripe is the "automatic charging" claim. Everytime you want to charge the razor, you have to plug it in. They recommend unplugging the charger when not in use. It would be nice if you could just leave it plugged in and forget about it. You can do that, but it shortens the battery life. Besides that, it's a great razor and I highly recommend it. I actually look forward to shaving now!

Very good but not perfect
Shaves much quicker than anything I've used. It has a hard time getting a couple spots on my face though.

Great product for the money
This shaver has a nice balance between cost and features. I really like the ability to clean it with tap water. It's very quiet and gives a very nice share. I've had it about 4 weeks and have only charged it once so far. No, I don't use it every day, about 3 or 4 times a week.
I'm happy with my purchase and I'm glad I didn't spend twice the money for a shaver with a bunch of features I really didn't need.

Could not be more satisfied
The 8140XL shaver was purchased to replace an older and very tired Norelco triple head shaver which had served me well. The new Phillips/Norelco out performs that one tenfold. It is quicker and closer shaving, saving me precious time in the morning when preparing for work. I was so impressed by its efficiency that I bought one for my 18 year old son. He was equally satisfied.

NOT MEANT FOR A MAN'S BEARD?
Not sure who can get a close shave from this, but after buying this, it leaves me with a nice Don Johnson look. I may be on the thicker beard side of things, but I would expect this to atleast "speed" through to a nice close shave, etc. Even after putting a large amount of pressure on my skin, it appears these plastic razor blades still would not get a close shave. I have an older Norelco (metal blades) that has always done a decent job (but never as good as an old-fashioned manual razor shave), but nonetheless efficient. This newer version, however, is an extreme disappointment. I think they tried to save $ on materials, and ultimately killed the quality or usefulness.

Superior Closeness For An Electric Razor
I've shaved with an electric razor for years and have used Remington's for many of them. For the past 10 years I have used other brands: Braun, Wahl, and Norelco, for example.
Dissatisfied with the closeness I experienced with the other brands, I purchased the Remington MS2-390. While it is a little noisy, the closeness is unsurpassed. Because it does shave so close, it may be a bit irritating for those who are first time electric users; thus, may take some getting used to. As for me, it's perfect. I recommend it highly.

Not so close shave
About the only thing I like about this razor is the battery charge seems to hold up quite well. I don't have a heavy beard, and would expect a fairly close shave, but I am left with what feels like a five o'clock shadow. Probably sould have spent the extra bucks and bought a Braun.

Cheap Remington electric razor
Inexpensive Remington electric razor, functions well. High rated by "Consumers Reports". Good charging system. Only downside is the "dead man" switch. You must continue to hold/press "run" button down to use. I would prefer a continious-run off/on switch.

My husband forgot to shave and the next day and I couldn't even tell!
His face felt like he just shaved it. And he was all worried because we were headed for church. With his last razor, I could always see a little stubble even if he shaved that morning. A great product for a great price!

Only OK
Ordered this shaver after my old unit suddenly quit. Should have heeded the previous review that this unit lacks the power (and I think speed) of the older Norelco's. I have since ordered a pair of NiCad batteries for about $8 and repaired my old Norelco - what I should have done in the first place. I guess I'll keep this new one as a backup but it is not my first choice. It shaves clean, but is kind of slow and gutless.

Good price - average shave
I've used a "norelco" three-head style razor for 25 years. This one is lighter than the past 3 I've owned and the floating heads are tilted a little which makes it harder for me to get the shave I'm used to. I suspect my skill will improve, but at this point shaving to an acceptable closeness takes about 3 times as long as I'm used to. I do really like the ability to pop up the head and rinse it with water.

Awesome for a Battery Powered Shaver!
I use this shaver for travel and it does a great job - sometimes I think it's better than my full-size Braun. It's definitely better than all the other electric full-sized shavers I've ever owned. Two thumbs up!

It just works.
I use the shaver to shave my face and head. I have a mohawk with thick hair. I have light facial hair growth but THICK, COARSE, and rapid scalp growth. This single foil shaver simply gets the job done. If you can shave with an electric razor (some dudes can't) then this one will get the job done for you. It is waterproof and easy to clean. I originally purchased this for travel use but now use it daily for over a month now.
Pros: you can use your own rechargeable batteries. I use 2000mah AA NiMH and the charge lasts over a week for shaving both face AND scalp (minus the strip down the middle). This is more shaving time during a week than most men will use. I can imagine getting 2 weeks of shaving on a charge if only shaving the face alone. Alkaline batteries also work well, however the lower voltage rechargeable batteries still provide the power to shave smoothly.
Cons: There seems to be no replacement foil or blade assemblies for this shaver...but at the cost they are selling the whole shaver I can see why. The only other deficit is a the crudeness of the trimmer...however my other shaver, a high end rechargeable Braun, is not much better.
I will buy this shaver again.

Perfect little shaver
Bought this little shaver several years ago in Berlin when BA lost my luggage in Heathrow. Still use it and love it. Use it for travel to bring in my carry-on luggage and still use it every day as it gets those areas which a large Panasonic (nice but more expensive) doesn't get. Only complaint: Replacement parts (foil and blade) cost as much as a new shaver. Not very sustainable for the environment but guess what. Ordered a new one and will keep the other one as backup/work shaver as it still works, only would like after 5 years or so to exchange the blade.

always on the road
Im an over the road truck driver and a road trip biker, I need a small compact razor that fits into my shaving kit is easy to use and tough enough to stand the abuse of ridding around for thousands of miles in heavy trucks and motorcycle saddle bags. For more then 30 years Braun razors have met the challange and given me good service. The Braun P70 is my third Braun (2-AA) battery operated razor. My last Braun was more then 15 yrs old before it quit working and a tough unit it was indead. I am very pleased with the improvements made to the P70 over my older models. The P70 is a more substantial unit and address the problem the old one had of accidently being turned on while being jared around in my vehicles. This can't happen with the P70 as when the swing cover is in place it locks the off/on control. The head on the P70 is also a stronger unit then the one on my older model. I especially like the new modern looks of the P70, it's slightly bigger and it has better, tougher feel to it. The head and cutter can also be washed in water, which also lends it's self well to backpacking and camping. This is a quality unit and I reccomend it to any one that want's a compact razor that can stand up to rough treatment, run for longer then you can believe on a set of good batteries and give a quality shave.

I almost never take the time to write reviews for products. I am blade shaver, but there are times when using an electric razor is just more convenient. For those times, this inexpensive razor does a very good job. The batteries seem to last forever.

Questions & Answers
Question : How do I cure shavers neck?
I can't seem to find a way to cure the redness and bumps that occur after I shave my neck. Are there any good products or methods used to help smooth the skin and eliminate the bumps?
Answer:
This is not the answer you want to hear, but this is what I did. I suffered from the same problem. My beard hairs grow in all directions. Shaving was a torment. I always had bumps, redness, bleeding, ingrown hairs. I tried preshave treatments and postshave creams, aftershave, etc. I hated shaving, so I grew a beard. I keep it short and neat, and have found it to be a great alternative to shaving.
Since my neck was extra sensitive, I only use a trimmer on my neck; no razors to define my neckline. I cut my neck hairs really short with the trimmer (they look like a "5 o'clock shadow" after I trim them), but I never use a razor. This has stopped the bumps, redness, and ingrown hairs on my neck.
Before I grew a beard, I tried an electric razor and that helped to reduce the redness and bumps, but I still had some problems. Later, I just gave up shaving with any kind of razor.
I trim my beard once a week and that's it. It saves time in the mornings, money (from buying razors), lots of unnecessary suffering, and my wife likes the beard!
Hope this gives you some ideas.

Question : wanting some info on cube ice shavers vs. block ice shavers?
we are planning on buying a commercial ice shaver and already have a ice machine that produces cube ice so we are wanting to use that ice. Our concern is that it will not produce a light enough "snow". any opinions on specific machines will be appreciated.
Answer:
I have a Snowie machine that uses cube ice. I think it works great. I am sure there are finer ice shavers on the market but I think this is a pretty good machine and I like the texture.
The syrups are great and we have enjoyed them. I think the key is the temperature of your ice and the sharpness of the blade. I haven't had to replace a blade yet and our ice is always hard, not semi frozen.
You can read more at www.snowie.com/
Good luck.

Question : Do you think if Ernie Shavers had more stamina he would have beaten most anybody?
Guy just died in the 2nd half of the fight against Ali.
Answer:
Plus if he had a stronger chin and better defense he would had been champion. He had power but no stamina, defense and a weak chin. Some reports had stated his training was spotty at times. His second fight with Larry Holmes he got a beaten plus busted up. His face was target practice from start to finish. It was a good fight.

Question : Where is the cheapest place to get mens shavers?
I don't really have time to order on the internet because I need it for Father's Day. I'm looking to spend around $100.
Answer:
Maybe try BigLots if there is any near where you live, they have some shavers for pretty cheap.. also JC Pennys.

Question : Are there any good fabric shavers out there?
Needed for clothes that have those little pills.
Answer:
I own three of them. Remington makes the best one but it is difficult to find. It is a compact model and very good for cuffs and collars. I also have one by Evercare which doesn't seem to have the power on nubby fabrics and knits that the Remington had. And, I have a larger model by CedarFresh that is great for doing large sweaters because it has a larger cutting surface.
I originally purchased the Remington at a fabric store that has since gone out of business. I just bought the Evercare at WalMart and the CedarFresh came from Long's Drug store. I do NOT recommend the no name brand $3.00 one that Big Lots is selling. I bought one and returned it. It is very small, the container that the lint is collected in is tiny and needs to be emptied often and the thing practically falls apart in your hand while you are using it.

Question : Does anyone know if the specialty pubic shavers work better than a regular shaver?
I want a very close, smooth shave.
Answer:
I agree, Venus gets very close and smooth, I have tried the "bikini" shavers and they are not great, they tend to "catch" the hairs and pull them. I go completely bare and I always use my Venus razor, make sure you get the battery poered one cause I think that they have a disposable Venus now, also, make sure that you use a shaving lotion, they are better than shaving cream, Melaleuca has an all natural one that I use that has botanicals and other great stuff in it.
